JACK & THE OPTIMISTS

Jack McLaughlin began his love for music playing drums and singing lead vocals in a power rock trio called “The Autumn Dogs.” Taking third place at the High School Rock Off, the band played many late-night gigs in the Cleveland bar scene. Now at twenty-two, Jack has recorded two albums, “Clementine” and “Shades of You” at Center Street Studio in Willoughby. He engineers and produces his works while playing all the guitar, drum and bass on his albums. He draws inspiration from artists like; “The
Who” for instrument abandon; “The Small Faces” for soul and grit; and “The Beatles” for composition and harmony. His lyrics draw from the sadder side of love, yet the music rocks with melody, clever chord changes and bright jangly guitars.

For live shows Jack is backed by Brian Randall on Drums and Patrick McLaughlin on Bass. It’s a powerful trio. Think the Jam. Think Mod Power Pop! Think Jack & the Optimists!

THE ART OF BREWING

We sat down with our Chief Brewing Officer, Eric Anderson, to get his insight on how he merged two art forms into one flavor packed brew.

“Jack’s energy, positivity, pure love of music and joy of life are infectious. We became fast friends through his uncle Sam, jamming in the grass at a neighborhood party. Lo and behold this baby face is entrenched in the industry, writes and records his own music, and is well on his way to leaving a mark on the Cleveland music scene. Jack & the Optimists oozes reverb and vintage tube amp warmth that harkens back to the 60s, a refreshing analog take amidst modern music. He told me his favorite beer ever was Dortmunder Lager so we set out to make a Saucy tribute to the heritage German style. The beer has a soft malt backbone with just enough light bready and toffee character, a balanced bitterness comprised of all imported hops, and a bright, bubbly finish. German import beers were some of the first to hit American brewing culture before the wave of craft beer, right around the time Jack’s inspirational bands were hitting the scene. Cheers, Prost, Rock n Roll!”

DESIGN + AESTHETICS

Moving on from lost love is a challenge. One person moves forward while the other lingers in the past. The main background of the label was created digitally by a family friend of the band. The watercolor-like strokes depict a woman with her back turned, pulling away and leaving the other to reminisce about fond memories. The flowing curves of the font were chosen to complement the illustration. The color palette was drawn directly from the artwork, with influences from the 60s and 70s: much like Jack’s music. Florals were added to remind us that while letting go is difficult, there is always beauty in new beginnings. Don’t be afraid to look back at the past while moving forward.

Special thanks to Jack Delaney for allowing us to use his illustration. This is the first Artist Collective label collaboration.
